Lifelong Burton Resident
Born and raised in Burton, Gerald Snodgrass is the son of former 67th District Court Judge Gerald Snodgrass and Judith Snodgrass retired Bendle/Bentley/Atherton Special Education Consortium Director. He has one sister, Kelly, who lives in New York State with her husband and three children. His wife Marie (Hamelin) is a UM Flint graduate who works as a Head Start Family Support Coordinator at the Bendle/Carman Ainsworth Learning Community where she has been for over twelve years. They have two sons, Trey (6) and Jack (3).
Education
Educated from kindergarten through eighth grade in the Bentley system, Snodgrass went on to graduate from Flint Powers Catholic High School in 1991. Subsequently, Snodgrass graduated cum laude from Albion College in 1995 and from Notre Dame Law School in 1998. Mr. Snodgrass worked at what is now known as the Thrun Law Firm after law school practicing civil law for School Boards and School Systems. After a year, he began a career in the Genesee County Prosecutorʼs Office where he remains today.
Experience
In February, Snodgrass was honored by the Prosecuting Attorneyʼs Association of Michigan for ten years of service. Snodgrass has tried hundreds of cases and performed many other duties while at the Prosecutorʼs Office including: community prosecution, preliminary exams, pretrials, involuntary commitment hearings, representation of the Department of Human Services, and prosecution of personal protection violations. Mr. Snodgrass has attended and taught at many National District Attorneyʼs Association trainings including technology in the courtroom, computer related crime and community prosecution. In 2008, Snodgrass was trained in the intricacies of computer and white-collar crime by the United States Secret Service. He was selected as one of twenty-four prosecutors from across the country to attend the National Computer Forensics Instituteʼs inaugural training session.
While at the Prosecutorʼs Office, Mr. Snodgrass has either created or been involved in the creation of numerous innovative efforts to combat and prevent crime. Along with becoming the officeʼs first community prosecutor, Snodgrass assisted in developing ʻProject Trust,ʼ an effort to target specific areas for enforcement and prevention. He developed the criteria and guidelines for ʻProject Chalkboard,ʼ a truancy program designed to prosecute parents for not sending their 1st through 4th grade children to school. He successfully prosecuted the first truancy case in the Davison Community Schools. Most recently, Snodgrass developed the Active Shooter Training Team, a coalition of officers dedicated to training teachers safety techniques they can use in an active shooting event.
Community Involvement
Focused on community involvement his entire life, Mr. Snodgrass has regularly been recognized for his service. Snodgrass was awarded the Lux Fiat, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Service Awards while at Albion College. While working at the Prosecutorʼs office, Mr. Snodgrass has been involved in three non-profit organizations at the Board of Directorʼs level. He has served the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity, the Consortium on Child Abuse and Neglect, and the Old Newsboys of Flint. Snodgrass served as President of Old Newsboys for the 2008 calendar year presiding over a fundraising campaign involving hundreds of thousands of dollars as well as the purchase of a new warehouse facility.
While performing his duties as Assistant Prosecutor, Mr. Snodgrass has also been employed as a professor and content expert by Baker College. After teaching multiple courses in the corrections department, including Legal Issues in Corrections, Juvenile Justice, and Interpersonal Communications and Conflict Resolution, Snodgrass is currently employed by Baker to design five new courses for the recently developed Criminal Justice bachelor program.
He designed and is currently teaching the flagship CRJ 321 Criminal Law course at Baker College of Flint. Along with Criminal Law, Snodgrass has designed Cybercrime, Legal Issues in Corrections Management, Criminal Courts, Interpersonal Communications and Conflict Management, and Organized Crime and Youth Gangs courses.
In seeking the 67th District Court bench, Mr. Snodgrass wishes to continue his life of service to the community.
